Located west of Algiers, the Bouchaoui forest is one of the most popular places for Algerians to picnic, walk and especially for weekend jogging. An athletics club, the Bouchaoui Athletic Club, was even created there. The forest was once part of a vast agricultural estate founded by Trappist monks in 1843, whose wine-growing aspect was later developed by the Frenchman Henri Borgeaud.
A word of caution
If you go jogging, avoid dawn and dusk as attacks have been reported at these times when the forest is deserted.
