FORÊT DE BOUCHAOUI
Located to the west of Algiers, the Bouchaoui forest is one of Algiers' most popular spots for picnics, walks and, above all, weekend jogging. An athletics club, the Bouchaoui Athletic Club, has even been set up here. The forest was once part of a vast agricultural estate founded by Trappist monks in 1843, the wine-growing aspect of which was later developed by the Frenchman Henri Borgeaud. If you're going jogging, be sure to avoid dawn and dusk, as attacks have been reported at these times when the forest is deserted.
