MONUMENT TO THE MARTYRS
Built in 1982, the Maqâm Echahid, also known as "Houbel" to the people of Algiers, is a memorial to the martyrs of the Algerian War. Standing 92 m high, the monument consists of three concrete palms symbolizing the three pillars of the new Algeria: agriculture, industry and culture. Construction of the monument was intended to mark the southward shift of the city center. Beneath the monument is the Musée National du Moudjahid. From the balustrade at the top of Chemin Omar Kechkar, you can enjoy a fine panoramic view of the bay and the southern districts.
