The railway station is justly proud of its colonial architecture dating back to 1911, in the old style of Cape Town. In front of the entrance, poor Old-fashioned steam locomotive, Poor Old Joe, evokes the beginnings of the Namibian railway. Poor Old Joe ensured the first rail link between Swakopmund and Windhoek at the end of the nineteenth century. The museum is dedicated to the history of the railway in Namibia, admiring one of the first locomotives used in the country.
