HONKE PONTA
Tokyo's oldest Tonkatsu restaurant serves breaded pork in an airy, golden brown deep-fry. A pleasure not to be missed.
Opened in 1905, and run by the same family for four generations, it is the oldest tonkatsu (tempura breaded pork) restaurant in Tokyo, and perhaps the best. The frying is light and golden, the meat tasty, without too much fat. The recipe was developed by the first chef who worked for the Imperial Household Agency. Shrimp, oyster or beef tongue croquettes are also available. On the other hand, given the narrowness of the premises, it is advisable to come in the afternoon to make a reservation.
