Omoide Yokocho, the alley of memories, recalls the post-war days when hundreds of tiny shops swarmed in the alleys around the station. Most of them were destroyed, but this one has survived. The microscopic restaurants and bars open around 5pm. Yakitori, oden and noodles are eaten shoulder-to-shoulder, washed down with sake and beer. The street is even nicknamed "Piss Alley". The place is completely anachronistic. You might as well make the most of it, because there's no telling how long this street will last.
