The Takashimaya store was founded in 1831. Before becoming a major shopping center, it specialized in kimonos. It still features a fine selection. In 2018, the original building in Nihombashi was renovated and a new wing added. Stores, cafés, restaurants, a leisure center, such as the Pokémon center, and cafés cover around 66,000 square meters. Activities related to Japanese traditions, as well as exhibitions on a wide variety of themes, take place here on a regular basis, and are often very interesting.
