Built in 1911, it was Japan's first Western-style theater. Originally inspired by European opera houses, the building was demolished and rebuilt in the 1960s. The pompous red-lined interior sets the tone for Broadway-style musicals, with all manner of effects and set changes. The auditorium seats around 1,900 people. On the 9thfloor is a small museum where you can see temporary art exhibitions.
