MITAKE JINJA
Ikebukuro is a bit the owl district, for its many cafes dedicated to this bird of prey, but also for this charming shrine nestled in a quiet corner. It dates back to the 16th century and it is dedicated to the emperor Jinmu. Its main particularity comes from the statues and lucky charms in the shape of owls. They would protect from the tribulations of life because in Japanese the name of the bird, which is said "fukurō", can be understood as "without difficulty"(fu meaning "without" and kurō, "difficulty"). It is a pleasant stop and still not very touristy.
