A martial arts hall built in 1964 for the Tokyo Olympic Games, the Nippon Budokan has become a cult venue above all for the famous concerts it has hosted: the Beatles, Tina Turner, or Bob Dylan, who recorded a live concert there... Its polygonal structure designed by architect Mamoru Yamada was inspired by the Pavilion of Dreams at the Hōryū-ji temple in Nara, and this traditional feel drew criticism at the time. In 2021, the Nippon Budokan once again hosted judo and karate competitions at the Tokyo Olympics behind closed doors.
