TOKYO IREIDŌ
Memorial to the victims of the 1923 earthquake, built on this gigantic wasteland where thousands of people had tried to take refuge from the fires that ravaged the city on several occasions following the earthquake. Many of them perished there because of the flames that ignited the objects and bundles they did not want to part with. The ossuary, located in the basement, contains the ashes of more than 55,000 victims. This memorial is also dedicated to the victims of the bombings of 1945, at the end of the Second World War.
