A beautiful Zen temple founded in 1327 by Muso Kokushi, a great Zen master of the time. It features a seated wooden statue of the master dating from the Muromachi period (14th century). The Ichiran pavilion offers views of Mount Fuji. The natural stone Zen garden, designed by Muso Kokushi himself, is well worth a visit in its own right, but the temple is surrounded by greenery, with maple and plum foliage that is magnificent in all seasons. To get there, we recommend following the Tenen hiking trail from Kencho-ji.
