All the grace of the geisha put forward in beautiful traditional dances to celebrate the arrival of spring in Kyoto.
During the month of Cherry Blossom Dance, geisha and maiko (apprentices) dance to the rhythm of traditional instruments to celebrate the cherry blossom. The tradition dates back to 1872. Geisha consider it an honor to participate. The show celebrates the cycle of the seasons and the return of spring with dazzling costumes. It usually begins with the spring scene, danced to the cry of "yoiyasa". Each year, new dances and music are performed to the delight of the audience.
