Passing through Higashiōji-dōri, this temple was founded in 1598 by Ancestor Toyotomi in memory of his missing son for Ieyasu Tokugawa. The temple burned in 1947 and lost the wonderful fusumas painted by Eitoku and Sanraku Kanō. However, one can see in a new construction of the painted screens of the Momoyama period by Tōhaku Hasegawa and his son Kyūzō (maples and cherry trees). The splendid garden was designed by Rikyū Sen (master of tea art).
