Temple of the sect Rinzai founded in 1392 by Yoshimitsu Ashikaga (1358-1408) who establishes a painting academy at the request of Emperor Go Kameyama (1347-1424). Sesshū and Masanobu Kanō studied there. The kōdō, the reading room, was rebuilt in 1610 by Ancestor Toyotomi. The Jōtenkaku Museum has panels painted by Tōhaku Hasegawa and a collection of objects dating from the Muromachi period and the Ming era.
