This pretty rustic hermitage was inhabited by a haiku poet, Kyōrai Mukai (1651-1704), a disciple of Bashō who was part of the famous Bashōjuttetsu, the ten disciples of Bashō. He wrote Saga Saga, or Saga Journal, in 1691 in this temple.
