The Museum of Modern Art was designed by the famous Japanese architect Fumihiko Maki. There is a large collection of ceramics, pottery and paintings. The exhibitions are based on thematic rotation and host many works from the Modern Art Museum of Tōkyō.
To the north of the Museum of Modern Art, the Kyōto Kaikan (congress room) was built in 1963 by Kunio Maekawa.
