A fifteen-minute walk from the station, the giant bamboo forest is one of Japan's best-known images. Appearing in advertisements and films, the tall bamboos form a kind of arch that protects from the sun along a path some 500 meters long. It's a lovely walk. Unfortunately, it's a victim of its own success. The crowds who have come to enjoy the serenity of the site are actually disturbing its calm. We recommend that you continue on your way, guided by the bamboo, to enjoy a little peace and quiet.
