Manos del Uruguay is a cooperative of 13 groups of Uruguayan artisans who produce high quality woolen clothing, plaids, handmade wooden and ceramic decorative items. Since its creation in 1968, it has provided employment to more than 100 rural artisans in the production of wool and woolen articles. They have several stores in town, in Punta del Este and Colonia. Each piece is unique, with a skein of wool bearing the name of the artisan who dyed it and the village where she lives.
