This legendary Brazilian café, which residents used to call "Soro", was inaugurated on Plaza de Cagancha in 1939. Before moving to the famous 25 de Mayo Street, it served as a cheap cafeteria where people came to talk freely. It was here that the writer Mario Benedetti wrote his novel La Truguain 1960. Since then, it has become one of Montevideo's must-see institutions, which locals love for its nostalgic feel, medialunas and affordable menu. Tango shows on weekends.
