This 1783 building was bought by General Juan Antonio de Lavalleja who died there in 1853. His descendants donated the house to the municipality, which converted it into a museum to honor its owner. The museum exhibits objects from the period 1825-1828, when the country was fighting against Brazil. There is a series of engravings by the famous Juan Manuel Besnes e Irigoyen relating the national history, a collection of "gauchesques" objects and personal objects of the general (including his wife's lavish travel kit...)
