The Plaza de Cagancha, also known as Plaza Libertad, was once an important meeting place for Montevideo's high society. It was built as a tribute to the great caudillo Fructuoso Rivera and is marked as mile zero of the national road system. Every evening from 5 pm, senior citizens gather in the square to dance the tango. The cultural space El Ateneo, a beautiful theater that once hosted society debates, as well as the Palacio Piria are located nearby.

Every evening, after 5 pm., the place ignites. The elderly guests arriving with their music to dance the tango. Average age: 65 years. No age limit imposed since the place is open to everyone; but the quadra are rare and teens elsewhere.
