The José Batlle y Ordóñez Park is the second largest park in Montevideo, covering almost 50 hectares. It was designed in 1911 on a concession land and has been called Gran Parque Central and Parque de los Aliados. The French landscape designer Charles Thays, who designed many gardens in Buenos Aires, was responsible for its design. The park is home to the famous Estadio Centenario and sculptures such as La Carreta, the work of Uruguayan artist José Belloni.
