PARQUE DEL PRADO
This 106-hectare park gave its name to the neighborhood, and includes a botanical garden where more than 1,000 plant species are kept. It was the first park in the capital and is still the largest in terms of area. In the 19th century, during the Guerra Grande, many families fleeing the siege of the capital took refuge here. It dates back to 1870 and has been enlarged over the years. Beautiful sculptures adorn the park, such as the Monumento a los Últimos Charrúas (The Last Charrúas) by Edmundo Prati and the Monumento a la Diligencia (The Diligence) by José Belloni.
