PEATONAL SARANDÍ

The pedestrian street Sarandí is the obligatory starting point of any visit to the old city. Its history dates back to colonial times, when Montevideo was a small walled city. At that time, it served as the main communication route between the Spanish citadel and the surrounding rural areas. Today, it is a beautiful pedestrian street, lined with stores and restaurants that cater to both workers and tourists. It connects Plaza Independencia to Plaza Matriz, crossing the historic center of the city.
