TORRE DEL VIGÍA
The Vigia is a military structure built in 1800 by the minister Rafael Pérez del Puerto to warn Montevideo and Buenos Aires of the presence of enemy ships, especially British, in the bay. It offers a panoramic view of the estuary of the river. Measuring 13 meters high and with a base of 5 meters, it is located next to the Marco de los Reyes, dating from 1895. The marcos were used to delimit the Portuguese and Spanish territories according to the Treaty of Madrid of 1750. The Marco de Maldonado is made of white and pink marble, manufactured in Lisbon in 1753.
