PUEBLO GAUCHO
This theme park, which is the pride of the people of the department of Maldonado, was built by the municipality of Maldonado during the years 2018 and 2019. It is a temporal and spatial reproduction of the buildings, uses and customs of rural life in the eastern countryside of the 18th and early 20th centuries. The emblematic figure of the gaucho - natural inhabitant of the rural areas - whose rebellious profile was fundamental in the complex struggles of emancipation, allowed the consolidation of the territory of the eastern band, together with the European immigrant, the indigenous peoples and the Afro-Uruguayan community. You will be able to walk through the small reconstructed village and visit the different places that once frequented these cowboys of the pampas. Between the bakery and train station, the field hospital, the school and the villagers' ranches, all of the facilities are wonderfully well kept and all contain well-detailed information panels (in Spanish), which you can download to your cell phone using a QR code and then translate using an instant translation app. The carriage room alone is worth a visit, with an impressive collection of horse-drawn vehicles. A visit to the Pueblo Gaucho will definitely appeal to anyone with a keen interest in Uruguay's Creole tradition, history and national identity. It will take you about an hour to go through the entire park.
