FUNDACIÓN PABLO ATCHUGARRY
For lovers of modern art and architecture, there is no doubt that a visit to the Atchugarry Museum is a must. Inspired by the bow of a ship, with its sinuous curves and spectacular eucalyptus wood frame, the main building, designed by architect Carlos Ott, houses the works of Uruguayan sculptor Carlos Atchugarry as well as other contemporary artists. The foundation was created in 2007 by Atchugarry, an international sculptor, with the aim of maintaining a dialogue between art and nature. The five rooms house annual exhibitions of major artists and collections. There is also a cafeteria and an attractive art book store. In the summer, the foundation offers concerts of popular music, ballet and theater, as well as temporary exhibitions paying tribute to the extraordinary contribution of contemporary art in the country. Great masters of painting and sculpture such as Le Corbusier, František Kupka and José Gurvich are exhibited here. Located in the middle of nature, in a 30-hectare park, the museum allows visitors to wander freely to observe amazing sculptures. One of the highlights of the place is the Capilla de la Piedad (Chapel of Mercy) where a sculpture by Atchugarry, La Piedad (1983), stands in the middle of a space where the austere atmosphere comes to impact the visitor. A place not to be missed for its beauty and its artistic proposal.
