FARO DE CABO POLONIO
The beautiful white lighthouse that dominates the Cabo from the top of its 26 meters was inaugurated in 1881 when the village was born. Several ships were shipwrecked off the coast of this singular place, and its name comes from Polloni, the captain of the ship Nuestra Señora del Rosario, which ran aground here in 1753. You can go up there to admire the view of the Cabo, as well as the colony of sea lions dozing on the rocks. Take time to listen to the popular song Doce segundos de oscuridad by Jorge Drexler (Uruguay's only Oscar winner).
