FUERTE DE SAN MIGUEL
This beautiful orange or pink granite fort was built in 1734 by the Spanish to fight the Indians and conquer America. The Portuguese occupied it in 1737 and completed its construction before the Spanish recovered it in 1763. Having recently been renovated, it is smaller than the one in Santa Teresa, but retains the moat and drawbridge. The rooms contain furniture and objects from the period. Nearby is the Criollo Museum, which houses pieces and objects from the region. It is possible to rent horses to explore the park.
