The church was begun in 1858 but not inaugurated until 1898. It has two towers, one of which has a Swiss clock that was put into operation in 1900. Both towers have ceramic domes that reach a height of 60 meters in the style of azulejos from Pas de Calais. It also has eight marble columns, a unique construction in Uruguay. Inside, admire the eight spiders of Murano crystal, the sculptures of Domingo Mora and the frescoes of the Italian Lino Dinetto.
