Classified as a historical monument in 1984, this theater was inaugurated in 1912. It is second only to the Teatro Solís in Montevideo in order of importance. In addition to its quality architecture, it is the place of a rich tradition of staging. It was reopened in 1973 after being closed for a long time. And, for music lovers and nostalgics, it was here that Carlos Gardel sang for the last time in Uruguay before losing his life in a plane crash in Colombia. The acoustics are simply spectacular.
