Declared a national monument in 1975, it is now the House of Culture (where the tourist office is located) and regularly hosts music shows, workshops, theater groups and exhibitions. Don Ignacio Gregorio Barrios, born in Polancos on July 31, 1785, lived here. He is famous for having crossed the Andes with San Martin, having fought in Chacabuco, having been present in Talcahuano, Cancha Rayada and Maipú. Above all, he participated in the signing of the declaration of independence of Uruguay in Florida.
