Built in 1847 by order of President Don Manuel Oribe, this building was once a school for boys and was converted into a museum in 1973. It houses an exceptional collection of archaeological and historical objects as well as official documents of the village and the Calera de las Huérfanas. The library of Monsignor Ruben Irurueta, which contains 5,000 volumes donated by bookstores, institutions and individuals, is also located in the building.
