During the Second World War, this industrial area, now a historical monument, played a crucial role as a supplier of meat for the Allied forces. Planned by German architects (ironic!), its factory was taken over by the British company Vestey Group, which renamed it Frigorífico Anglo del Uruguay. In 1943, no less than 16 million boxes of corned beef were shipped to Europe from this factory. Don't forget to visit La Casa Grande with its gardens and the workers' houses that surround the factory.
