In front of the Plaza Constitución stands the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Rosario y San Benito de Palermo, whose construction began in 1860. Of neoclassical inspiration, it was largely destroyed by Brazilian artillery during the siege of 1864-1865 and finally completed in 1879. In 1906 a Walker organ was added, as well as 6 bells cast in Italy by the Poli company of Udine. In the atrium there is another bell, donated by General Rivera in 1829.
