This place tells the story of the heroic defence of Paysandú at the very place where the events took place, and where the heroes paid their lives. In the heart of the city is General Leandro Gómez, who has long resisted the attack of Venancio Flores. The mausoleum was opened in 1984 and contains the ashes and uniform of the general. A statue was drawn up in honour and a monument pays tribute to all the soldiers who died to defend the city. Correspondence from the general, photographs and weapons also appeared at the time.
