National Historic Monument and property of the State since 1980, this theater is an architectural jewel inaugurated in 1876. During the prosperous era of Paysandú, it hosted artists such as Rubén Dario, Nicolas Guillen, Rafael Alberti and Jules Supervielle. It was on its stage that the full score of the Uruguayan anthem was performed for the first time on October 12, 1915. The country boasts the longest national anthem in the world, lasting about 5 to 6 minutes and consisting of 105 bars.
