ÁRBOL IBIRAPITÁ
This huge tree has a peculiar history: it was imported from Paraguay in 1915 by Baltazar Brum, and then moved from the Plaza Battle to here because of the strong winds and frosts that fell on it before providing it with shelter (bonfires were even lit at night to provide it with the heat necessary for its survival). According to some historical testimonies, the tree was present during the last years of the life of the Uruguayan hero José G. Artigas in Paraguay, that's why a statue of his bust has been built next to it. Curious..
