This museum contains more than 1,200 works of art, including those of the national author Diógenes Hequet (1866-1902), the Italian Gofredo Herneni Somavilla, and the German painter and sculptor Carla Witte. There are also works by Torres García and artists from Treinta y Tres Tales, such as Juan Antonio de Andrès and Manuel Oribe Sosa. The museum is named after Agustín Araújo, a great art collector. Namely, Eduardo Araújo, his son, offered the city his interesting collection of paintings and sculptures.
