PIEDRA ALTA
Every year, the Declaration of Independence is commemorated on this rocky outcrop located on the banks of the Santa Lucía Chico River . It was here that on August 25, 1825, the Florida Congress was held, during which the independence of the Eastern Province of the Brazilian Empire was declared. Declared a national historic monument, the stone is considered the "Altar of the Homeland". Not far away is the Prado de la Piedra Alta Park, designed by landscape architect Charles Racine at the beginning of the 20th century, which is home to native species and children's playgrounds.
