CASA DE LA CULTURA
Inaugurated in 1955 under the impetus of local writer Santiago Dosseti, this House of Culture houses four museums, exhibition halls, a library and even a theater. The center often organizes art, photography and craft exhibitions, concerts, plays and film screenings. It also conducts classes and workshops in music, dance, theater and crafts for children and adults. A must-see if you are visiting Minas.
The Eduardo Fabini Museum displays scores, musical instruments, photographs and writings of the famous national musician. Visitors can also listen to recordings of his music and learn more about the history of music in Uruguay.
The Museo de la ciudad is dedicated to the history of the city and exhibits manuscripts and objects and sculptures by José Belloni as well as a large collection of original paintings by artists such as Figari, Torres García, C.M. Herrera, José Cúneo, Vicente Martín, M.E. Gómez, E. Ribeiro, C. Motta and many others.
The Museo del Indio y del Gaucho exhibits more than 1,000 pieces tracing the technological evolution and customs of the region through the indigenous and gaucho culture.
The Museo Juan Antonio Lavalleja displays personal objects of this national hero of Uruguay, as well as exhibits on his life and role in the war of independence. The museum is located in the historic house where Lavalleja lived for part of his life.
