The night of December 24, known as "noche buena", is celebrated with the traditional Christmas mass and dinner.

The night of December 24 is known as "noche buena" in Spanish. Puerto Ricans gather with family and friends to attend the "Misa de Gallo" (Christmas mass), then enjoy the traditional "lechón y arroz con gandules" (roast pork and rice with pigeon peas), drink "coquito" (Puerto Rican "eggnog", an alcoholic beverage made of rum, coconut cream, vanilla and various spices) and sing "trullas de navidad" (Christmas songs). Hotels and restaurants also offer Christmas dinners.
