Sandwiched between Muñoz Rivera and Constitución avenues, the Capitol is Puerto Rico's main political headquarters. For Puerto Ricans, it represents a powerful symbol of self-government. Located in Puerta de Tierra, it houses the senators and deputies in each of its wings. The original Commonwealth Constitution is on display in the rotunda. The frescoes that cover the interior of the dome are magnificent. The construction of the building began in 1919 and was completed 10 years later, its dome in 1961.
