MUSEO DE LAS AMÉRICAS
The Museo de las Américas (Museum of the Americas) is a non-profit institution founded in 1992. Located inside the Cuartel de Ballajá, an eminently historical building that is worth a visit in itself, this museum, from our point of view, is a must-see. You will leave enriched, with a better knowledge of the history of the "country". The cultural heritage of Puerto Rico and the Americas is highlighted here. Plan at least two hours (and much more if you read carefully all the explanatory panels) to go through the four permanent exhibitions: "Popular Arts in the Americas", "African Heritage", "Conquest and Colonization: Birth and Evolution of the Puerto Rican Nation" and "The American Indian". These provide essential information for a better understanding of the culture of this small American island, but with an identity all its own. Temporary exhibitions on art, history and anthropology are also regularly organized. More than 500 exhibitions have passed through this great museum since it opened. With a very diversified program, the museum offers a wide range of exhibitions, creative workshops, conferences, symposiums, musical performances, and other activities. The Museum of the Americas focuses on multidisciplinary, multicultural and multidimensional learning, reflecting the diversity of the people of Puerto Rico and the Americas as a whole. Travelers who are curious about art and culture will find something to enjoy.
