It is located at the entrance to Old San Juan when you arrive from Puerta de Tierra. More than a century ago, the square was still called San Juan. But in 1893, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of Puerto Rico by Christopher Columbus, the site was renamed in honor of the famous navigator. At the bottom of the statue, the different bronze portraits represent some of the stages of his life. Around the square, you can admire the beautiful façade of the Teatro Tapia and the imposing Antiguo Casino de Puerto Rico, built in 1913.
