Religious celebration, in Loíza, which mixes African and Spanish catholic traditions. The Puerto Rican bomba is honored.
For two days, another style of folkloric characters, Los Vejigantes, parade through the streets of Loíza, to the rhythm of the Puerto Rican bomba. Their masks are made from coconuts and driftwood. This is a religious celebration that mixes African and Spanish Catholic traditions. In the street, the struggle between the forces of good and evil is symbolically represented by Los Vejigantes and Los Caballeros (the Spanish knights who were protected by the apostle Saint James in their fight against the Moors).
