LA GUANCHA
From Friday to Sunday, this is the place to be! Of course the bars of the city center do not fail to attract the youth of Ponce, but the Guancha opposes them a serious competition since several years. It is a bit like the "Croisette" of Ponce. The Paseo Tablado La Guancha offers a nice walk along the waterfront, provided that you do not seek fine sand and turquoise water. Often crowded on weekends, La Guancha is much quieter from Monday to Friday. The best time to go is at the end of the day and from Thursday night to Saturday night. Next to the port, along the coastline, the city council has opened an entertainment center with 24 kiosks. Each one is arranged differently. Here a bar, there a restaurant or a small discotheque. The atmosphere is very family and exaggeratedly Caribbean. The regulars have their ease. Everybody dances outside from 7 to 77 years old. Salsa dominates the debates, but techno, rock and of course reggaeton, can be heard. On special nights, the Guancha is packed. Don't miss the bohemias (informal concerts) that take place from Friday to Sunday, starting at 8 pm. To get there, you have no choice but to take your car or a cab. There is a large parking lot with 5,000 spaces for vehicles. From the center of Ponce, take Route 10 south to the coast. From there, signs guide you easily to the site.
