A peak classified as a great national natural site, where the celestial night landscapes are fabulous at La Mongie.

Classified as a major national natural site, the Pic du Midi rises to 2,887 meters, leaving its mark on the landscape of the entire region. It stands as the emblematic beacon of the Pyrenees. The Pic du Midi adventure begins with a 15-minute cable car ride from La Mongie station. The fifteen-minute ascent offers an aerial journey to the dome of the astronomical observatory, gradually transforming this enchanting natural setting into a center for scientific research and study. Since 1873, it has provided scientists with unrivalled facilities for observing solar and atmospheric activity. The center is equipped with the Lyot telescope, which enables the observation and study of stars and galaxies.
Open to the public, the site offers a modern, educational and original interpretation center, which will challenge your senses and perceptions of space. Discover the history of the observatory, its construction, and the human epic behind its construction. Pioneers who braved the impossible to build its legend. The nocturnal celestial landscapes, from thunderstorms to weather phenomena, offer an infinite spectacle in the sky. From the famous esplanade, where the light and air are of rare purity, the horizon seems infinite, stretching from Catalonia to the Basque Country.
Themed workshops and observation equipment are available, as well as a panoramic bar-restaurant and Europe's highest planetarium. Inside the Baillaud dome, an 8-metre curved screen broadcasts two films, taking visitors on a captivating journey through the universe. For a complete experience, the overnight package at the Pic includes the ascent, a welcome cocktail, sunset observation, dinner, stargazing and overnight stay. The following day, you can watch the sunrise and visit the scientific quarters. With only 12 double and 3 single rooms, the number of guests is limited to 27 per night. Skiing down the Pic du Midi is reserved for experienced sportsmen and women, requiring advanced technical and physical skills. It's the only 100% freeride area in the Pyrenees, neither supervised nor signposted, but qualified guides with excellent knowledge of the high mountains can supervise this experience. The highlight of the visit is the transparent pontoon above the void.
