This wilderness trip will introduce you to the wonders of high-altitude fauna such as marmots, isards and bearded vultures..
The Artouste train rises to an altitude of almost 2,000 metres, establishing its status as the highest train in Europe. Along its 10 km route, it offers exceptional panoramic views over the Soussouéou valley, reaching its terminus at the Lac d'Artouste dam, created in 1924. This wilderness adventure will awaken your senses with the intoxicating scents of mountain flora and allow you to explore the wonders of high-altitude fauna. Once at the dam, a 20-minute walk takes you to Lac d'Artouste.

It is in Vallée d'Ossau, everything high.
Artouste: a truly unique place. You leave your vehicle on parking at the edge of the Lake Fabrèges then to the station, embarked in the " oeufs" for about ten minutes from ascent. An impressive view over the stone giant: the Pic du midi of Ossau and peaks including the Peak of Chérue, the Pic Lavigne... A ski resort and snow family and extremely friendly winter. In summer, it is the famous Petit Train the highest in Europe that takes over from May to September. It curves on a course about six miles reveals really magnificent landscapes on the peaks and the Soussouéou valley... You can see lovely marmots which watch. At the end of the trip, after a short walk, you will discover Lake Artouste in which peaks including Palas are reflected. I recommend this station and its Petit Train. You will not regret it, on the contrary.
