LAPIAZ DE LA PIERRE-SAINT-MARTIN
At 1,650 meters altitude, in an almost desert landscape, an original and very diverse flora is concealed. Above the village of Arette, with 140 m ², the largest Lapiaz in Europe is spread, geological geological formation in calcareous and dolomitic rocks. On horse between France and Spain, this limestone landscape with so clear color is chiseled by the runoff of the waters, the rigoles more or less marked and of all sizes, and the whole is dominated by the famous Pic d 'Anie. The domain has become an international crossroads in the area of speleology with the illustrious gulf of La Pierre Saint-Martin, also called the Leffy Chasm. It was long the most vertical and houses the incredible cave of La Verna, in Sainte-Engrâce. In this astonishing and unique plateau, the last square pines leave room for elevation lawns. Many birds can be observed there: The royal eagle, alpine accents, spioncel pipit, mottling chalk, crave and chocard… In the forest part of the plateau, at lower elevations, you will find other species such as wood crunch, sharp peak or white back.
